The Langley chimneypiece
Strongly architectural in form, this mantelpiece is carved from Portland stone. Based on the designs of the English ornamental designer Batty Langley (1696–1751), bold, rusticated ‘quoins’ have been used to reinforce the strength of the design. The word quoin derives
from the French for corner.
