Unique Red Lacquer and Brass Maison Jansen Dining Table, 1970s
A rare piece from Maison Jansen, this large dining table was a commission by a private client. With its impeccable design, perfect proportions, and high-end materials like mother of pearl lacquer and brass, it was likely a hugely expensive undertaking. Yet, the resulting symmetry and unusual beauty is a worthy result of such efforts. As expected for Hollywood Regency design, the structure feels rich, thick legs made from solid brass. The table top is a lovely red lacquer, inlaid with unique geometric designs of gleaming brass and organic-feeling mother of pearl. The elongated octagonal shape of the table offers a final punch of individuality, shirking the typical oval or rectangle shape. Fully restored to very good vintage condition, this table reveals stunning attention to detail at every bend. It is a fascinating Jansen masterpiece.
