Unique Sylvain Subervie Wrought Iron and Glass Console, Circa 2000
French designer/sculptor Sylvain Subervie creates objects that celebrate the natural properties of strong materials. Though his work stems from his training in the traditional decorative arts, his passion for innovative design imbues each piece with a true uniqueness. Here, this wrought iron and glass console seems to demonstrate exactly this mix of French decorative tradition and creative license that feels very much of the exciting early aughts. The iron structure is sharp and imposing from a distance, two pointed arches and spears serving as the only elements. Sheets of transparent glass, forming two table surfaces, rest firmly on the iron spears jutting out from each side. Up close, the hand-hammered iron is beautifully textured, displaying “brush strokes” in the metal. A rare, striking console table, this piece will elevate any contemporary space with its sculptural beauty.
