Vintage Mid Century Maison Jansen Louis XVI Montgolfier Balloon Chairs - Pair
Hand carved frames with distinction “balloon” backs a la the 18th century Montgolfier Brothers originals crafted by Jean Baptiste Demay – now in the Musee Carnavalet in Paris. At one time the original pair was also the property of Nadar, the famous nineteenth century photographer and balloonist. This style was later made popular anew in the mid-twentieth century by the august firm of Maison Jansen. Ivory painted frames with pale green highlights, Both chairs feature “MA” initialed center medallion and distinctive back rail. Faux double cushions are down filled and upholstered in a sage green Osborne & Little silk damask. While not signed or marks we attribute these to Maison Jansen based on their design details and high quality. Both chairs are in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Extremely sturdy. Painted frames shown minor marks and “dings” commensurate with vintage age/use. GRAB THESE BEFORE THEY FLY AWAY!
