Vintage Railway Convex Mirror, England circa 1930
Carl Moore Antiques
Carl Moore Antiques’s Stock# PAS17
Huge Vintage Railway Convex Mirror, Original Painted Frame, England c.1930. This enormous convex mirror is real mirror glass not acrylic as seen elsewhere. The large expanse of the convex glass was used in locations on a railway track where the ability to see was a necessary safety issue. The red and white original paint on the metal frame is another sign of its safety need origin. As the mirror lived outside it has that wonderful aging in both the frame and glass that add immeasurably to its textural impact. The asymmetry of the frame with the larger section at the top that then tapers down to the base gives the mirror a unique appeal when used in an interior space. This mirror may also be used on a covered terrace or loggia where it will continue to weather gracefully while providing a powerful focal point.
