Watercolor Portrait of a Woman, 1920s
Original 1920s watercolor by Charles Downing Lay of a woman with a marcel wave hairdo and a large white silk flower seated in a shapely chair. Lay was one of the first trained American Landscape Architects designing parks such as Bryant and Battery Park in NYC. This watercolor was part of a cache of what was presumably his personal work, never exhibited. The painting shows an interesting and accomplished Modernist. Signed lower right. In a contemporary white metal frame. less
