After studying under renowned painter Giorgio Morandi in Bologna, Italy, Milton Glaser went on to co-found the revolutionary Push Pin Studios and the irreverent New York magazine. In 1974, he opened Milton Glaser, Inc., where he continues to produce an impressive body of work to this day. Among the worlds most celebrated graphic designers, Glaser has created some of the most recognizable and enduring graphics of our time, including the immortal I Love New York logo and numerous others. His vibrant Wavering Rug (2013) features a field of uneven stripes counterbalanced by a color gradation running perpendicularly to them. By gradually thickening these stripes lengthwise, Glaser succeeds in altering perception to create an illusion of pattern. Nani Marquina chose this design at first sight, realizing just how well it would translate into a rug. Together with the nonprofit Care & Fair, Nani Marquina is fighting against illegal child labor in the manufacturing of carpets. Made by hand in India.
